Energy - Encraft
Matthew Rhodes, an Action 21 Director and the Managing Director of Encraft www.encraft.co.uk has offered us some places for you at various training sessions they are running. They are listed at http://www.encraft.co.uk/events/home/home_page.php . If anyone would like to go on them, let me know and I'll pass your details onto Matthew. Matthew suggests that the ones on May 6 and Nov 11 would be the most appropriate but please feel free to have a read and see if you are interested in any of them.
Sustainable Development - techniques for raising awareness

Description
This event covers a variety of awareness raising techniques such as on-going campaigns, quizzes, and games where appropriate. Also looked at is the psychology behind behavioural change and how this can be applied to raising awareness of sustainable development. The importance of developing strategies and action plans will also be discussed, as well as national and local case studies.
The event is aimed at anybody who wishes to engage and motivate others on sustainability issues in the area in which they work or live – for example with elected members, voluntary organisations, the general public, the public sector and the private sector. The skills learned will be transferable to other situations where raising awareness is required.

Working with Secondary schools through the National Curriculum

Description
This event will provide an introduction to the National Curriculum at Key Stages 3 and 4, including opportunities and requirements related to environmental education and sustainable development education. It will explore case studies of successful partnerships between organisations and Secondary Schools linked to the National Curriculum, and will introduce examples of resources developed to meet the needs of Secondary Schools and the National Curriculum at KS3 and 4. It will also consider some of the practicalities and challenges of working with Secondary Schools.
The event will be of interest to local authority officers, community and environmental workers wishing to develop their work with Secondary Schools.

Climate Change Condensed
COIN (Climate Outreach Information Network) has created a fantastic new 3-hour 'all you need to know' course which uses the carefully-concocted recipe of expert knowledge (we bring the experts to you on film), group discussion and pair work. We ask you to come with your ideas and concerns and we will give your confidence a power-boost and give you the energy to go back out and get active.
The course covers the basic science of climate change; extreme weather & home impacts; what the opinion polls tell us about public feeling on climate change; what the politicians & leading experts are saying; feelings which climate change brings up for us all; why is it important to take urgent action?; how much time we have in which to act; emissions reductions and different possible scenarios; can it be done?; where do we start?; look at your own life and consider what action you can take right now which will have an effect; how do we create change? - strategies for different groups/situations; group pledges...
If this is something people are interested in, we can book a course and they will come to us.
The new Recycling Service in Warwick District
I've arranged a session with the Warwick District Council Recycling Officer, Becky Davies, on Thursday 6th March, 6pm - 7pm, at the Council Offices, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Leamington, CV32 5QQ. Becky will give an overview of the new recycling service and explain why the Council have adopted the new service. It will also give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have about it so please do bring along any questions you may have. Becky is willing to do another session if this one does not suit you. If you could let me know when would suit you, I can organise another.

A 60 minute presentation followed by questions and answers.

The need to reduce first then replace with renewable energy
What is renewable energy
A summary of renewable energy technologies
Renewable energy use in the UK and Warwickshire at the moment

'Introduction to Climate Change and Peak Oil'
This interactive 1 hour presentation will cover the basic science and information behind climate change and peak oil. The talk will cover:
1) Basic science of climate change
2) The reasons that scientists give for thinking that we are causing the problem
3) Some predications about the future
4) Basics of peak oil and other fossil fuel peaks
5) Data on past fuel use and predictions for future supply
6) Consequences of climate change and peak oil
7) The transition town movement's solution
8) Sources of further information
This training session is open to all, not just Green Champions.
