Renewable Energy Club, Solar Thermal Sub-Group

Introduction

A principal objective of the solar thermal sub-group is to run a project to instal 30 new solar thermal water heating systems in Warwick District. We are, however, keen to share all information gathered whilst working towards achieving this and other objectives we set ourselves; everyone with an interest in the technology is welcome to browse the contents of our webpage as it develops.

Reports

1.  Relative performance of solar thermal water heating systems

In 2001 the Dti commissioned back-to-back tests on eight different solar water heating systems, both flat plate and evacuated tube types.  The results were reported in Report Ref. DTI/Pub URN 01/1292, a copy of which can be seen by clicking on the highlighted report reference.  In view of the fact that the work was carried out some time ago, it is incumbent on the reader to check the availability of the systems tested.  The report is, however, a useful reference work for those wishing to learn more about the subject of solar thermal water heating.

Case studies

The following case studies have been prepared from information kindly contributed by householders who have installed solar thermal water heating panels.  It is hoped that the information provided will be of benefit to others presently thinking of installing such panels.  We will forward letters from those seeking more information about individual case studies to the householders concerned, but the decision whether to respond will be at the discretion of the householder.
