Solar 300 Green Champion

Project overview

Every 30 minutes the earth absorbs enough energy from the sun to power the entire planet for a whole year.

The aim of Action21/Renewable Energy Club's Solar300 challenge is to facilitate the roll out of domestic solar water heating systems in Warwick District and capture some of this sunlight. It is estimated that there are currently 300 installations in the district and our aim would be to see that at least doubled. This will start with a group of people who have already expressed an interest in the project through the Renewable Energy Club.

Hot water heating accounts for on average 5 MWh of the 30 MWh of energy use of a typical house. The solar thermal installation can usually cover about 75% of that hot water heating demand. CO2 emissions savings are approximately ½ tonne CO2/year.  The delivery of the challenge can make an important contribution to lowering the districts CO2 footprint and to the installation of local distributed renewable heat generation.

Principal Function of Volunteer
