Renewable Energy Club launch

23 November 2007

It's been an all too familiar week in the media with more reports of escalating international oil prices and no sign of the situation levelling out in the near future. It is now an almost certainty that a barrel of oil will cost over $100 by Christmas, an increase of 40% since August. This price rise is having a knock on effect in all of the major fossil fuel markets.

It is however not all doom and gloom, if we adopt an alternative perspective. Ever-increasing prices in carbon-based energy sources are having a positive effect on cleaner renewable technology such as solar and wind. Higher prices for fossil fuels mean that renewable energy is becoming a more viable option for you and me in our homes.

Consequently, this could represent the tipping point for energy generation strategies in favour of renewable energy. This means that the financial savings to be made by substituting electricity or gas from the grid with energy generated from your own home will be set to increase more rapidly, with of course the added advantage of lowering your carbon footprint.

One of the most financially attractive renewable energy options is solar water heating.

If you are interested in finding out more about the possibilities of these technologies, Action 21's Energy Group is launching a Renewable Energy Club. Members will help each other to learn about the many different ways that environmentally-friendly energy can be generated, what is best for their homes and needs, and then to take the practical steps to get equipment installed.

The Renewable Energy Club will open on 1st December at Hill Close Gardens in Warwick. The meeting starts at 10am and will run until noon. There will be a presentation on renewable energy options followed by a Q&A session. We want your input, so there will also be an opportunity to discuss how you would like to take this exciting new venture forward.

The meeting on the 1st December is an open meeting and all are welcome. However in order to plan accommodation, please let us know if you would like to come by emailing renew@action21.co.uk  or calling Bernard Perkins, Action21 Energy Group on 01926 452661.
