Renewable Energy Club
Steps toward a low carbon society
Introduction
The purpose of the Renewable Energy Club is to give mutual support and encourage others to become more knowledgeable, gain confidence and invest in their own on-site generation. Members should also be actively encouraged to reduce their use of fossil fuels before or within a reasonable period of time afterwards. We are initially directing our efforts at Warwick District residents but welcome interest from further afield.
We set ourselves these objectives:
- Understanding the renewable technologies, costs, benefits and pitfalls
- Increasing awareness and acceptance in the community
- Seeing many more installations across the District and County
Over 50 people expressed an interest in being involved in the club and around 30 people attended a very successful launch meeting on 1 December 2007 at Hill Close Gardens in Warwick. A second meeting was held in Leamington Spa on 2nd February. At this meeting we decided to initially concentrate on solar thermal, wood burning stoves, photovoltaic cells and wind power.
We have a membership with a wide range of interests, from householders, to farmers and even one member who has a solar powered canal barge.

Our areas of interest and plans
Although we wish to support all forms of renewable energy the group decided to focus initially on these technologies:
Members of the Renewable Energy Club with interests in the technologies have formed sub-groups to gather information and generally become more acquainted with them; click on any one to find out more about the activities of the associated sub-group and to see information so far collected.
