Removals Assistant

Project overview

Action 21’s two Re-Use shops accept and sell donated goods to reduce the number of useful items going to landfill and to raise money for sustainability projects in the local community.  Last year The Recycle Warehouse diverted over 100 tonnes of rubbish from landfill!

Both re-use shops are in Leamington Spa, one at the site of the Princes Drive Household Recycling Centre and the other in the Sydenham industrial estate.

Principal Function of Volunteer

The role of the removals assistant will be to help our van driver to transport stock between the two sites and also help deliver furniture to and from households within the Warwick District.

Tasks and Activities

This role will require a lot of lifting and moving to help the van driver.  Due to our insurance volunteers would not be required to drive the van.

You’ll be carrying out some or all of the following activities

  • Lifting items into our van at one of Action21's 2 re-use sites
  • Accompanying the drive to properties within the Leamington district
  • Unloading items of furniture from the van to the front of the property.

Benefits

We value our volunteers and aim to fully support them in their volunteering.  As part of this commitment we hold regular review sessions so we can check that you’re enjoying your volunteering placement and that your needs are being met.  We also believe that volunteers should not be out of pocket for donating their time and effort and so we pay back all volunteers’ reasonable travel expenses

Action21 will provide steel-toed boots for this role

Skills/Qualifications/Experience sought

No particular experience or skills are required as full training in manual handling and health and safety will be provided.  We ask individuals to be enthusiastic about the role and willing to learn to work using their initiative.
Physically fit and able to lift (The Action 21 van does not have a tail lift so adhering to manual handling procedures and safety is paramount).

Minimum age: 16 yrs

Time commitment required: Mondays 9am – 5pm
