Project Overview
Action 21’s Re-Use shop accepts and sells donated goods to reduce the number of useful items going to landfill and to raise money for sustainability projects in the local community.  Last year we diverted over 100 tonnes of reusable goods from landfill!

Both re-use shops are in Leamington Spa, one at the site of the Princes Drive Household Recycling Centre and the other in the Sydenham industrial estate.

Volunteer tasks
•    Lots of lifting and moving to help the van driver move stock.
•    Accompanying the driver to properties within the Leamington district.
•    Unloading items of furniture from the van to the front of the property.

Skills/previous experience sought
•    No particular experience or skills are required as full training in manual handling and health and safety will be provided.  We ask individuals to be enthusiastic about the role and willing to learn to work using their initiative.
•    Physically fit and able to lift (The Action 21 van does not have a tail lift so adhering to manual handling procedures and safety is paramount). We’ll provide safety boots if you don’t have them.

Benefits of volunteering:
•    Expenses: We believe that volunteers should not be out of pocket for donating their time and effort and so we pay back all volunteers’ reasonable travel expenses & there’s tea, coffee & biscuits on tap.
•    On the job training and support is provided, including full training in manual handling and health & safety. Regular review sessions to check you’re enjoying your volunteering placement and that your needs are being met.
•    You’ll be part of the wider network of Action 21 volunteers, receiving regular updates and information on our projects and invites to our well attended volunteer socials.

Time commitment required:
Volunteers usually commit to a minimum of 1 shift of 3 ½ hours per week (9:30am-1pm or 1pm-4:30pm, Tue-Sat) but please speak to us about your circumstances; there is some flexibility.

Minimum age: 16

Location:
The Re-Useful Centre, 5 Ramsey Rd, Sydenham, Leamington Spa, CV31 1PL
