Action 21's pumpkin days
Last weekend (30th/31st October 2009) hundreds of children in Leamington enjoyed good, local food and good, local fun all based around the pumpkin.
Action 21, with the help of volunteers, organised the two days at the Lillington Youth Centre on Mason Avenue to help people have fun with local food.
“There was loads to do! There was facepainting, a bouncy castle and pumpkins that were already scooped out for us to carve with special tools and stencils. There was so much to do, and the guidance from the volunteers was brilliant,” said visitor Gillian about the day at the Sydni Centre.
“My son was super-impressed by the pumpkin that was as big as him. We carved three faces on it.
“The food was lovely too. I tried the Pumpkin Pakoras [made from the pre-scooped out pumpkins, cooked by the Syndi Centre kitchen] and they were really nice.”
The pumpkins all came from Hilltop Farm on the Fosse Way, less than 10 miles away from Leamington. This is all part of Action 21’s aim to get people eating more local food which is better for the environment. The pumpkin day highlighted how fun and easy it is to enjoy local food.
