Finding beauty and art in unexpected places
Photography exhibition, “Re-use: the possibilities are endless”
Action 21 is hosting a photography exhibition all about the possibilities of Re-use on Thursday 18th March, 7pm-10pm at the Oddfellows Hall in Leamington Spa.
The title is “Re-use: the possibilities are endless”, because we want to know what potential people see in re-using things. It could be anything at all, from a display of goods in a second-hand shop to scarecrows made from junk; from your favourite recipe of leftover pie to a toilet bowl used for planting flowers in.
“I think this is a great opportunity for us to share our ideas and perspectives in a new way. Everybody sees the world in a different way, and photography lets us share our world view with our friends, neighbours and community,” says Action 21’s Eleanor Perkins.
Local photographer and Action 21 volunteer Liz Drake was excited to hear of the exhibition. “ It made me look at the household items we chuck out in a fresh light”, she says. “I found beauty and art in the most unexpected places. Photographing my bag of plastic bottle tops awaiting recycling, suddenly looked colourful and artistic; my children's old plastic bottle greenhouse with its green shoots showed life can grow in from literally rubbish and the phrase 'one man's junk is another man's treasure' has never more applicable than when looking at items which can be re-used to photograph. The possibilities are indeed endless!”
The exhibition will be held from 7pm to 10pm on Thursday 18th March at the Oddfellows Hall and is open to everybody. There’ll even be a chance to purchase photos, with any funds being used to support projects that make Leamington more sustainable.
To enter a photo in the exhibition and to have a chance of winning a bottle of organic sparkling wine (there’ll be an alternative prize for under 18s), send an A4 printout of your photo, signed on the back, along with your name and contact details to: Eleanor Perkins, Action 21, Riverside House, Milverton Hill, Leamington Spa, CV32 5HZ. The competition is free and open to all, and the closing date is 7th March.
