Action 21 partners with Warwick District Council on new job role

20-07-2010

Local environmental charity Action 21 are partnering with Warwick District Council on a new job role this September. Action 21 is looking for a Ranger to join them at their new location in Jephson Gardens.

The post includes co-ordinating the day-to-day use of the Garden’s attractions and developing links with schools and community groups, police and PCSOs. The successful applicant will also be involved in delivering conservation, sustainable living, environmental and heritage education sessions, and creating community ownership and awareness of the gardens. There’ll be plenty of opportunities for lots of people to get involved in this new venture, as the Ranger will be developing and supporting a “Friends of Jephson Gardens” group as well as supporting a variety of volunteers in different roles.

The Ranger will be the council’s, and Action 21’s eyes and ears on the ground, making sure that everybody can enjoy the award winning gardens. The post has been under close discussions for months, and now both Action 21 and Warwick District Council have reached an agreement as to the position.

Rick Smith says: “The beauty of partnership working is that it allows us to pool our resources and achieve greater results. We’ve seen the same effect with our schools education for sustainability project, where councils from Warwickshire, Rugby, North Warwickshire and Coventry all club together to put on a fantastic event for around 1200 primary school children every year.”

Action 21 has had their head office at East Lodge in Jephson Gardens for nearly three months, and many of their staff have been involved in developing the site ready for the public to visit it once the Ranger is in post.

With this post, Action 21 will increase its number of employees to eleven, both part and full-time. Employee Eleanor says: “At a time when many people are experiencing job cuts and redundancies, it’s really exciting to be involved in an organisation that’s actually creating more jobs.”
