Age of Stupid

14th April 2009

The Royal Cinema (at the Royal Spa Centre) and Action 21 are combining for a special two-day screening of Pete Postlethwaite’s ‘Age of Stupid’. The Oscar-nominated actor (‘In The Name of the Father’, ‘Brassed Off’) stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking back at “archive” footage from today and asking: ‘why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance’?

This acclaimed film has provoked great reaction from press and public alike; "The first successful dramatisation of climate change to reach the big screen." (The Guardian); “Anything but a good-guys-versus-bad-guys polemic. It is angry but nuanced, despairing but strangely motivating.”  New Statesman.

Ken Livingstone was moved to say that "every single person in the country should be forcibly made to watch this film"!

The two screenings at the Royal Cinema are at 6pm on Sun 26th & Mon 27th April, and will also feature a question and answer session with representatives from Action 21 on Sunday 26th. The group promotes sustainable living to people in Warwickshire through positive practical action. They work for people and the environment at a local level, working in constructive partnership with other organisations and individuals, aiming to make greener living easier to do in ways which create a better quality of life. Activities centre on food, waste, transport and energy issues and they are proud to have over 60 volunteers involved.

There will also be stalls and further information available on the day. For anyone with an interest in the environment, green-living or just wanting to know how they can do their bit, this is essential viewing.
