Mission statement

Action 21 aims to promote the production and consumption of seasonal, local and organic food.

The staff, volunteers and directors involved in food are working towards a Leamington and Warwick Food Partnership which will promote practical action within the community, fostering pragmatic links that will stimulate and encourage the local and organic food production sectors in and around Warwick and Leamington.

Our vision

We want to increase production of seasonal, local and organic food by working with practical growing projects of our own and offering support to relevant community projects with our staff and volunteers. Practically we will:

  • promote food co-ops that use local, seasonal and organic food -  now delivered via www.swlocalfood.org
  • support allotment groups when asked, seek to link community groups with allotment spaces and seek to work with the district, town and parish councils to establish new allotment space in the towns and district (see Dobson Lane Community Allotment);
  • develop a project to share offered garden space for communal vegetable production, seeking to involve housing associations like Orbit where relevant;
  • develop a scheme to share excess garden and street fruit production which might be expanded to a community orchard site on a local allotment;
  • work with community centres to develop lunch clubs, growing plots and demonstration gardens and promote local food events that encourage local production (pumpkin days etc.) (see Community Food Project);
  • work with schools to encourage growing and produce cooking projects;
  • work to have a stall at the farmers market available for community and allotment holders to sell produce to the public;
  • encourage the County and District Councils to devote one bed in each town park to vegetables as a demonstration of the transition town principle;
  • engage with Garden Organic to offer training to community groups for food production;
  • develop a fish production faculty on an allotment or local farm site;
  • promote educational activities aimed at raising awareness about the advantages of seasonal, local and organic food and encouraging food networking and links.
