Fab Fabs Textile Re-Use Volunteer
Project Overview
As a volunteer for Fab Fabs you will help divert fabric from landfill by thinking of fun and creative ways to reuse fabric and put your ideas into practice.
Volunteer tasks
• Sorting textiles by type and quality for further use
• Cleaning, mending and altering clothing
• Making patchwork squares and bunting
• Snipping and saving buttons, motifs, zips and buckles
• Customising clothing and being creative
• Making Re-useable shopping bags and curtains for The Sustainability Centre (new Offices within Action21)
• Collection of textiles from locations in Warwick district by bike, foot or car
• Designing and making happen a 'gala' event with swap shop, demonstrations, displays and stalls
• Creating an educational environmental message and marketing it
Skills/previous experience sought
• Skills or no skills, creativity, frugality, imagination.
• Sewing/Mending/Creative with textiles.
Benefits of volunteering:
• Expenses: We believe that volunteers should not be out of pocket for donating their time and effort and so we pay back all volunteers’ reasonable travel expenses and we provide lunch if you volunteer for a full day.
• You’ll be part of the wider network of Action 21 volunteers, receiving regular updates and information on our projects and invites to our well attended volunteer socials.
• On the job support is provided, including review sessions to check you’re enjoying your volunteering placement and that your needs are being met.
Time commitment required:
Fab Fab sessions are generally held every Thursday 11am – 2pm
although there may be other times you can help.
