Leamington Peace Festival
Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June 2008. Pump room gardens, Leamington.
Anyone want to do something at this event? There is the opportunity to do short talks between the bands. In addition, the Action 21 stall is a good place to engage with people about sustainability during the festival.
Every year we give campaigning & charity groups a chance to get their message across to festival goers by giving a short talk between the bands on both stages.
This year, for these to have more impact, they will all be themed under one title: One thing YOU can do for Peace this week.....
This gives lots of scope for subjects and hopefully will encourage the audience to become more active in the particular campaigns that interest them by giving them an easy way in.
It's a great opportunity to publicise a cause, and its really not that scary! As we're a free festival we can't pay anything but we will provide vouchers for a drink at the festival.
The talks should be about 3mins long, we have 1 microphone available but to help get the audiences attention and promote the message, we suggest that a small group of campaigners go on the stage, preferably underlining the message with slogans, banners, or charity t-shirts. Other volunteers could also go around the audience with petitions or handing out flyers (but only to those interested - we don't want to cause any litter!) whilst the talk is taking place. (Note, this is only allowed during the talk timeslot.)
The talks with be advertised in the FREE programme and on the website so the title should be short & catchy & we can put a link so people can find out more information.
