Did you know?

The Recycle Warehouse is on reduced service

The Recycle Warehouse building is currently undergoing repairs. We are continuing to operate on a slightly limited basis using shipping containers to store and display goods but we are open. This means that we may not able to accept all the donations that we are offered.  Please also note that we are now open 7 days a week!

Electrical Equipment Tester

Role Description

At the Recycle Warehouse, electricals are donated but before we can sell them they have to be tested.  As a PA (Portable Appliance) Tester, you will be trained to test electricals and then test electricals that will be sold at the Recycle Warehouse.  This project helps reduce useful electrical items going to landfill and to raise money for the various local environmental projects that Action 21 works in Coventry and Warwickshire.

As a volunteer you will carry out some or all of the following tasks depending on your individual capabilities and preference:

• To carry out training in PA Testing to enable you to test equipment to legal requirements
• To PA Test electricals that are donated to the Recycle Warehouse
• To accept donations of electricals
• To price electricals that are ready for sale
• To be involved in general tidying of the electrical equipment areas and to take part in daily / weekly cleaning routines
• To work effectively in the team to ensure shop layout and presentation of goods is to the highest standards
• To represent Action 21 and give out information to the general public about Action 21 and environmental issues as required
• To take part in occasional environmental promotion events at the shop organised by Action 21
• To take a diligent approach to security and the prevention of theft

Experience/skills sought:

No particular experience or skills are required in electrical testing as volunteers will be trained and supported.  To do the training you need to have a good level of literacy and be at least 16 years old

Criminal Records Bureau Disclosures:

A CRB Disclosure is required for all individuals that would like to work in the Recycle Warehouse.  Action 21 is committed to the fair treatment of ex-offenders.  Individuals having a criminal record will not necessarily be a bar to obtaining a position.

Benefits:

This role provides excellent work experience, especially for people pursuing a career in retail, community/charity work, and the environmental field as well as though interested in electricals.

Availability:

You can volunteer any day of the week except Tuesdays, including weekends and Bank Holidays.  Volunteer shifts are either 9.30am – 1pm or 1pm – 4.30pm.  Volunteers usually commit to a minimum of one shift per week but there is some flexibility involved.  Just talk to us about it!

Location:

The Recycle Warehouse is found at Prince’s Drive Household Recycling Centre, Princes’ Drive, Leamington, CV31 3PH.
