Green construction

Guidance is given in this section on upgrading an existing building and building a new one. If you are planning a new building, it is best to consider environmental issues at the very beginning as it becomes progressively more difficult to include these as the design develops.

As part of Action21 brief to develop sustainable living, we would very much like to see the construction of exemplary Zero CO2 buildings in the district. If you have plans to build sustainable housing, cohousing, offices, or other buildings, we would be interested to hear from you. This section outlines the design of a zero emission building as well as the refurishing of existing homes.

"Building Design, 17 May 2002, reported that "the World Wildlife Fund has called on the government to commit to building a million 'sustainable' homes in the UK by 2007 ... using Bill Dunster Architects' BedZED scheme as a benchmark for sustainable development"
