Project overview


Every Friday volunteers help prepare a healthy meal for users of the children’s centre.  They use the contents of that weeks local Fresh Food Co-op vegetable bag to help people think of new and exciting recipes.

Principal Function of Volunteer

We need volunteers to help prepare the meal and to help clean up afterwards

Tasks and Activities


As a volunteer you will carry out some or all of the following activities, depending on your individual capabilities and preferences. This list is only a guide to the types of activities that may be required. 
• Preparing vegetables: washing, peeling, chopping
• Washing up and cleaning up
• Looking up recipe ideas

As well as being involved in a worthwhile project which helps promote healthy eating you’ll be able to learn how to prepare fresh and healthy meals.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience sought


No particular skills or experience are required as full support and training will be provided.  There may be opportunities to complete a Food Hygiene Certificate.

Minimum age: 16

Time commitment required


Fridays 9am – 1pm.  Please let us know if you can only make a shorter time slot or only on occasional weeks as there is some flexibility.

Training, Reviews & Support


General
• Registration session with Amy, The Volunteer Development Worker to provide an overview of Action 21 and what volunteering on our projects involves.  Also gives you a chance to ask any questions you may have.
• Project Induction with Judy, The Community Food Officer
• End of probation review session (after 4 weeks or sessions of volunteering; with Amy and/or Judy as appropriate)
• 6 monthly review sessions with Amy

Job Specific Training
• We may be able to offer formal Food Hygiene training

Expenses

You can claim back reasonable expenses for travel.  How you go about claiming back these costs will be explained in more detail during your induction.

If you have the time to volunteer for a full day we’ll even give you a free lunch!
