Book Volunteer


Project Overview
Action 21’s Re-Useful Centre accepts and sells donated goods to reduce the number of useful items going to landfill and to raise money for sustainability projects in the local community.  Over the last few years, the centre has diverted over 100 tonnes of reusable goods from landfill each year.

Volunteer tasks

  • Organising and managing our books section
  • Sorting out and shelving donated books
  • Tidying the shelves and moving books back into their correct categories
  • Identifying duplicates, tatty and damaged books to be sold on to external  companies
  • Pricing books for sale and identifying desirable, rare or valuable books to be sold online.

Skills/previous experience sought

  • You should enjoy sorting books and creating order
  • Being interested in books is useful but not necessary – you might just be interested in re-use and seeing things go to a good home.

  • You’ll be part of the great team of Action 21 volunteers who volunteer at the Charity’s Re-Useful Centre.

Times needed:

  • Monday –Sunday
  • Volunteers usually commit to a minimum of one shift (9.30am-1pm, 1-4pm) but please speak to us about your circumstances are there is some flexibility.
