About us

Action 21 promotes sustainable living to people in Warwickshire through positive practical action. We work for people and the environment at a local level, in constructive partnership with other organisations and individuals. We aim to make greener living easier to do in ways which create a better quality of life. Our projects and activities focus on the issues of food, re-use, transport and energy and we are proud to have over 100 volunteers involved.

Action 21 was originally established in 1996 as an Agenda 21 group in response to the international Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Action 21 is committed to taking practical steps towards a greener future in Warwickshire. Our work builds on the links between improving the environment and making life better for local people and communities. .

Governance and Funding

Action 21 was established as a social enterprise in 1996 and registered as a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee in 2001.In 2010 Action 21 became a charity, and is therefore governed by a board of directors ('trustees') who carry out their role unpaid, on a voluntary basis.

Funding comes from a range of sources including self-generated income, statutory funds, charitable trusts and membership fees. Surplus funds generated through our activities are ploughed back into projects to benefit the environment and local people, instead of being distributed to directors or shareholders.
