Solar 300 Challenge

Every 30 minutes the earth absorbs enough energy from the sun to power the entire planet for a whole year.  With Action 21 you can tap into this amazing power in your home. The Solar 300 project aims to engage with the local Warwickshire community to increase awareness of solar technology and facilitate installations with project partner Eco2Solar.

We have set up a group purchasing scheme for solar electric (PV) panels and solar thermal (hot water) panels to enable local purchasers to benefit from bulk-buy discounts. This offers a considerable discount on the individual price for groups of three or more householders purchasing PV or solar thermal systems, and having them installed together.

The following is an example of the cost and rate of return for one [3kWp] installation as part of a group of three households: -

  • South-facing, pantile roof of 30 deg pitch
  • Cost (incl VAT)  = £ 6750
  • Annual income from electricity generated = £773
  • Annual rate of return = 11.5%
  • Time to payback investment = 8.73 years

The above example is given as a guide only and definitive costs will only be confirmed after a full (free, no obligation) survey has been carried out.

Since Autumn 2010 we have installed several clusters of solar PV and solar thermal panels on houses around Leamington, totalling over 60 installations in all.

Sound good?   More detailed information on both solar PV  and solar thermal - how they work, what they look like - can be found  on the Eco2olar website.   The Energy Saving Trust also gives  lots of advice including the latest information on current solar PV feed-in tariffs and the Renewable Heat Incentive.
